چکیده

Resonant vibrational excitation cross sections and the corresponding rate coefficients for electron–N2 collisions occurring through the N − 2 (X 2 g) resonant state are reviewed. New calculations are performed using accurate potential energy curves for the N2 electronic ground state, taken from the literature, and for the N2 resonant state, obtained from R-matrix calculations. The calculations are extended to resonant excitation processes involving the N2 ground state vibrational continuum, leading to dissociation. Electron-impact dissociation is found to be significant from higher vibrational levels. Accurate analytical fits for the complete set of the rate coefficients are provided. The behavior of the dissociative cross sections is investigated for rotationally excited N2 molecules, with J = 50, 100 and 150, and for different vibrational levels.

Cross Section Data for Electron-impact Inelastic Processes Ofvibrationally Excited Molecules of Hydrogen and Its Isotopes

An extensive cross section database for the electron-impact inelastic processes of vibrationally excited molecules of hydrogen and its isotopes is presented. The following inelastic processes are covered: electronic excitation (dissociative and nondissociative), direct ionization (dissociative and nondissociative), excitationradiative decay vibrational excitation and dissociation, and dissociat...

Vibrationally promoted electron emission from low work-function metal surfaces.

We observe electron emission when vibrationally excited NO molecules with vibrational state v, in the range of 9 < or = v < or =18, are scattered from a Cs-dosed Au surface. The quantum efficiency increases strongly with v, increasing up to 10(-2) electrons per NO (v) collision, a value several orders of magnitude larger than that observed in experiments with similar molecules in the ground vib...

Vibrationally inelastic scattering of high- n Rydberg H atoms from N2 and O2.

The vibrationally inelastic scattering of Rydberg H atoms (n = 30-50) from N2 and O2 at E(coll) = 1.84 eV was studied as a function of laboratory deflection angle. On average, 4 times more vibrational excitation was observed in collisions with O2 than with N2. Vibrational excitation of O2 results largely from collisions in which an electron is briefly transferred from O2 to the proton core, whi...
